# Hew Playground mobile guides

Write your first Hew program on a phone or tablet, then edit, run and share it.

## Choose your app

- [iPhone and iPad guide](/docs/playground/ios/) — [get the iOS app from the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hew-playground/id6760174916).
- [Android guide](/docs/playground/android/) — [join the public Android beta](https://play.google.com/apps/testing/sh.hew.playground). Android is in development and available as a pre-release.

No desktop compiler is needed to start from the bundled examples. Open Hello World, tap Run, change its printed message and run again. Each guide shows the actual app controls for examples, editing, output and errors, local files, import/export, tutorials and sharing.

## Know where your code runs

Recent iOS builds provide an explicit On device/Remote selector. Android currently tries the on-device sandbox and can use the remote service when the engine is unavailable or a program requires native-only capabilities. Installed store/beta versions can differ from the recent builds shown in screenshots. Follow the guide for your platform and check its version notes before relying on offline behavior.

Remote runs and server-backed share links send source to the service. Inline links contain the code in the link itself. Review source for secrets before running remotely or sharing it.

## Read or download the manual

Both guides are available as an [illustrated HTML manual](/playground/manual/manual.html), [printable PDF](/playground/manual/manual.pdf) and [ePub](/playground/manual/manual.epub).

For a browser editor instead, [open the web Playground](/playground). For a desktop compiler, use [Getting started](/docs/getting-started).
